Founded in 1926 and visited by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1933, the Sümerbank Keramik Factory is being reimagined a century later as a vibrant destination for the next generation. The design strategy embraces the site’s "brown-field" industrial identity, treating the historic kilns (cehennemlik), the iconic chimney, and the drying galleries not merely as ruins, but as theatrical stages for a museum, craft workshops, and innovation incubators
By integrating regenerative landscape principles, the project heals the land; it harvests sun and wind for positive energy while directing rainwater through bioswales to nourish the earth. This transformation bridges the Vefa neighborhood with the city center through seamless micro-connections, evolving from a site of material production into a sustainable social infrastructure that honors its clay-rooted past while fostering a healthy, productive future for Kütahya.
