A Living Neighborhood: Bridging Heritage with Daily Life
The transformation of the Vefa neighborhood transcends industrial restoration, focusing on the creation of a high-quality, sustainable residential environment that prioritizes the pedestrian experience. By weaving together a chain of open green spaces and social courtyards, the design fosters a "15-minute neighborhood" where education, recreation, and health facilities are all within a short walk from home. The project breathes new life into the historic "brown-field" site through regenerative landscaping, replacing industrial echoes with lively streets filled with small-scale production workshops and artisan shops
Central to this vision is the "Living Laboratory" concept, where residents and visitors alike engage with the city’s ceramic heritage through hands-on learning at the experience center or social gatherings in the shadow of the historic kilns. By strengthening micro-connections to the wider city, Vefa evolves into a destination where the tranquility of neighborhood courtyards meets the energy of a contemporary urban center—offering a healthy, productive, and culturally rich lifestyle for the next generation of Kütahya.
